MedPharmPlast Europe Summer Conference 2025 Concludes with Key Industry Insights and New Leadership

 

MedPharmPlast Europe (MPPE) successfully concluded its Summer Conference 2025 on 1–2 July at the Novotel Lyon Gerland Musée des Confluences. The two-day event brought together leading stakeholders from across the medical plastics and polymers value chain for in-depth discussions on regulatory developments, sustainability, and future market trends.

Hosted in the vibrant city of Lyon and graciously welcomed by Nemera, this year’s event featured a rich agenda packed with expert presentations, strategic dialogue, and networking opportunities.

Joanne Bell, new MPPE President from Albis

One of the highlights of the conference was the announcement of MPPE’s new leadership team. Joanne Bell from Albis has been appointed as the new MPPE President. Bernd Garska, Covestro was named the new Vice President.

Key Highlights from the Conference:

Regulatory Developments: The Regulatory Task Force, led by Serge Tabet (Terumo) and Alessa Luebke (MPPE), provided vital updates on the evolving regulatory landscape, including REACH Revision, MDR and IVDR amendments, and PFAS restrictions. ​
Wouter Geurts (Tekni-Plex) addressed the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, while Frank De Smedt (DyFrNd) gave insights into the updated framework for assessing extractable elements in plastics for pharma applications.

MPPE Summer Conference 2025

Sustainability at the Forefront: The second day centered on the theme “It’s All About Sustainability,” with compelling presentations from:

  • Nadine Kaufmann (Ypsomed) and Nadine Lampka (Schreiner MediPharm) on the mass balance concept and Alliance to Zero’s initiatives.
  • Elisabeth Mertl (OFI) on biocompatibility risk management of sustainable materials.
  • Joanne Bell (MPPE) presenting the “White Dot” feasibility study.
  • Laurence Bouret (DASTRI) introducing DASTRI and co-presenting the ReciPen programme alongside Matthew Dwyer (E. Lilly) and Christian Pommereau (Sanofi).

The conference concluded with closing remarks from Lilla Mezriczky, MPPE General Manager, and the new MPPE leadership team, reaffirming the association’s commitment to driving collaboration, innovation, and sustainability in the medical plastics sector.
